Default In Game Player Search System

Ok, so I've gotten a few friends into guild wars. They love the game... once they are able to get a handle on it. Me, being the good friend that I am, try to help them as much as possible. This become a daunting task when they start off in presearing and dont understand the concept of districts. They say, I am in ascalon city... I ask, what district.... I dont know... Look on your screen at the top left... I dont think I'm seeing it right, theres nothing there.... You arent in the city then.... etc...

So amid this mild confusion just to get a group together, they become turned off to GW because they cant group with thier friend right away. I purpose and in game search system (possibly with a profiling system) to minimize this constant district jumping. You can bring up a search and type part of a name, or look for what type/build/etc kind of player you need for your group. You send them an invite in district 1 of lions arch, but they are in district 4. If they accept, they will be brought to district 1 and automatically join the group.

Now say your friend has been hunting trolls in droks. You've been in elona fighting shrubbery. You have droks cleared and you and your friend decide trolls would be more fun together. They go to droks district 2 and you click thier name in the friends/guild/alliance whatever and "join" them directly in thier location and directly into thier team.

Final scenario for now, your friend is in presearing in the catacombs and you are in ascalon. They are lost and want you to group with them. They send you an invite and you accept. One of two things could be designed to happen here. You could either be transported into that instance with your riend (I could see alot of exploiting of this feature though) or you could both be transported to the abby or the last town that your friend was in, as well as the same district and the same team. From there, you are ready to go. You've found eachother and joined a team in one swoop.

This would greatly enhance the team aspect of guild wars that has been diminished by the advent of heroes. Also, something as simple as being able to right click on a name in the chat window and sending an invite, rather then typing the whole name 7 times before you get it right in the invite screen, would be nice as well.

Please feel free to add to this and make comments.

Thanks!

I would like the idea of getting allies or maybe just guild members into your instances... but... there should be a lot of limits, like you can't take anything from before you got there. Or disable this inside cooperative missions.

Id even be happy with a location listing in the guild window, instead of just "online" it would tell you which map/arena/town they were in. It would be easier to see whos in what 'mode' be it farming, questing, or pvping (which is somewhat assumable from map to map i think)

(something like that)

When Arenanet says they're going to do something, they actually do it about 2 months after they say they will. That's why we don't have an elite mission for NF yet. (we were supposed to get a mini-expansion like Sorrow's Furnace after NF's release, but Anet just made it the elite mission that they already owed us. So much for the mini-expansion every 2 chapters.)

"big wintersday update"

I like this idea alot but will this work if you are on diffrent continents? and will it block people from getting into areas they have not been to yet?

Can't say I've had this problem. Selecting one out of 2-8 (typically) districts that are all numbered isn't a hard way to meet up. Try other games where the players host the servers and can call it whatever they want, and you try to play with your friend.

"what server are you on?"
"it's called Bob's something, I forgot"
"i don't see a server with that in it"
"yeah it used l33tspeak, it used special characters to make the name"
"just give me the IP"
"ok 234.55.23.111"
"doesn't work"
"oh i forgot the port, 234.55.23.111:5555"
"server is full now let's go to another one"

As for why I wouldn't want something like this, I value my privacy. I don't want anyone to be able to put me on their friends list and then send me invites wherever I am whatever I'm doing.

This is a rather good idea. A few tweeks are in order for it to be properly implemented though. Have it so that in missions you can't invite a person, if one of the players doesnt have the area that the other is in then they cannot be warped there, to keep people from exploiting others the person who just joined and the excisting players in the group cannot leave the group until they get to a town or outpost. I have some other ideas but those are the basics for now. When I have the rest down i wioll post them.

Read the manual...? or at least some bits of it if you are a newbie... And the district system isnt that hard if you explain it right. If you are in a town, and press ctrl, you can not see rednamed NPCs. If you are in town, you will only see blue and green NPCs easy as that....

1) this wouldn't be bad, read 2 however....

2) You noticed it yourself. Exploiting will come... thats why I'm personaly against it since theres not really a way to lock down. Also if you doing missions and everything, things turn bad, you just invite a monk friend that just finished with his GvG or w/e and let him heal/res the party. I'd see the gameplay getting trashed...

even though you have a point with finding you friends could be made easier.

But lets be serious ok? Does gw even have a working friendlist when you get over 40 friends in there?

Not rly... its that I have a notepad docu. that says if i have to speak dutch/english/german/spanish or french to a person otherwise I wouldn't even know who they were... since I just remember a main and well if they change sometimes you never know. And the problem of 2nd accounts.
Anet needs a way to upgrade the player system friend happening because this is just 1 big mess... I rather would like to see a new system that first of all you can have 'guest' friends, those who offer a service, sell an item on guru you can just add and see if they are online yes/no/away/dnd. Then have a real friendlist, one you have to agree up on with both you and your friend and this will state the current profession/ where the person is/ what guild/alliance hes in/ and maybe some personal info like a name or email if somebody want that put in?

They do this in Everquest 2.
You can see where your friends are.
You can search by class, level, race....ect for when you are forming a group.

If you type /anon you are hidden from all searches. It is short for anonymous.
I would like something like that in Guild Wars, but it might require too much work for a game that is free of a monthly subscription.

Nice replies. As far as my friend playing, he doesnt have the game, he was using my trial code so does not have a manual. He's actually a light gamer in general, so I figured, the more I could do in general, the better. Streamline it for him. Actually I've had several friends put off by not being able to group right away. I mean, you and I know how to use the systems of GW, but noobs have a little harder time, esp if they dont have a box copy.

Anyway, keep the comments and suggestions coming

You definitely have a good concept idea here. I love the idea of being able to join groups with friends easily like this.

One scenario I think it would rock in is for SF and such. Say you have a group of friends who you know can play all the classes. You could invite them (with a message - added my own tweak there) and say something like "Hey I have (so many friends) on and I'm setting up an SF group, you in as Monk" or whatever like that. This way people know WHY you want them to join. If you wanted to it could even go as far as "Hey I need you as your Monk in SF will you switch to Sergios Monk?" and assuming they entered your character's name correctly there would be a "Switch and Join?" button at the bottom of the message.

Of course continent separation, Pre-Sear to Post-Sera separation, and Unlocked area separation would have to be implemented but I can see how it would be very helpful.

I Can see it now....
Me Running away in The lower Shiverpeaks from a Humongous horde of Enemies, Then POOF, a Guildie appears and Tanks them all. and i dont get DP from the advancing horde.

Thered be easy Fixes for it. No Special Area Warps (FoW,UW,Elite missions,Any Missions) If you have 8/8, you cant invite another player. A Surcharge maybe? 100 gold to Warp. And of course, you have to accept the Request to have your friend warp, and for Bastards you can Click a "Ignore" box.

Yeah, of course:

- You won't be able to ask to be called, only players in explorable areas would be able to call for help.
- Only characters in cities or outpost would be called, the invitation will appear in the Party window, and the party will appear in the screen but with different denoting colors and a button that says 'Warp in' instead of Accept.
- You would be able only to call as many characters as you can fit in the party list, if you are 7/8 you would be only able to call one more character.
- You won't be able to call to Special areas, like Cooperative Missions, Challenges, Elite Missions, special areas (like Titan Quests areas)... only to normal Explorable areas.
- The Character must have unlocked any of the areas that you must warp in in orther to get there, you won't be able to call someone to Mineral Springs that do not have The Granite Citadel.
- Characters that come will not be able to pick any single item droped before they came, even after more than 10 minutes.

Alternatively:
- Only available to call Friends, Allies or Guild members.
- As Sniper Corps said, there could be a fee to call or travel to an ally.
